Delegation of the Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry met with the Foreign Minister Mr. Nikos Christodoulides on Thursday 3/5/2018, with whom he exchanged views on the current developments in the Cyprus issue, the visit of the Petitions Committee of the European Parliament to Cyprus, May 8 for the issue of Famagusta, the opening of the Deryneia checkpoint, business missions abroad and other issues.
Referring to developments in the Cyprus issue, Mr Christodoulides expressed the view that talks will soon resume, based on the Guterres framework, and the appointment of American Jane Hol Lute as the new envoy of the General Secretary. which is expected soon to come to Cyprus for exploratory contacts with interested parties.
Regarding the visit of the Petitions Committee of the European Parliament to Cyprus on 7-8 May 2018, the Minister pointed out that its purpose is to confirm and restore the written declaration of the European Parliament dated 14/02/2012, which provides, inter alia, pursuant to United Nations Security Council Resolutions 550 (1984) and 789 (1992), on the return of Famagusta to its legal residents.
On behalf of the ACCI, the President, Mr. Avgoustis Papathomatos, expressed the wish that Famagusta will finally open for its residents and that this can be combined with the forthcoming opening of the Dyrinesia checkpoint.
Business issues were further discussed and it was agreed to organize joint missions abroad to promote and develop Famagusta and Cyprus in general, as well as to organize other events in Cyprus on matters falling within the competence of the Foreign Minister.
