Othon Ghalanos Group  is a family business founded in 1929 by Mr. Othon Ghalanos, known for its determination, salesmanship and ethics, a legacy still thriving with the 2nd and 3rd generations of the family who manage the business successfully together with a agile and dynamic team of dedicated professionals with proven experience in building  brands  of spirits and wines. 

It is now the oldest importer and distributor on the island in this field with a powerful portfolio of spirits and wines, on an exclusive importation and distribution basis, in the Cypriot tax paid and tax-free / travel retail market, as well as tobacco products in the tax-free / travel retail market, and with a consistently reliable service.

 

The first company of the current group was Othon Ghalanos & Son Ltd, the 4th oldest member of the Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  Later, with the creation of several other companies, such as Ghalanos Distributors Ltd, the group took its current form as Othon Ghalanos Group under the umbrella of the holding company Othon Ghalanos Ltd.

 

In 1967 and after the death of his father, Mr. Stelios Ghalanos, a pioneer and gamechanger in this field, then 21 years old, representing the 2nd generation of the family, took over the reins of the family business, and traveled abroad, from Famagusta, with a vision to build spirits and wine brands in Cyprus. 

 

The vision began to materialize when brands such as Veuve Clicquot, Mateus, Metaxa, Antinori, Torres, Concha y Toro, Glenmorangie and many others in the following years, appointed Othon Ghalanos as the exclusive importer and distributor for the Cyprus tax paid and tax free / travel retail market. 

 

in 2020, Ms. Elena S. Ghalanos, representing the 3rd generation of the family, is appointed Managing Director of the group. Born in Famagusta, she is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science and WSET (Wine & Spirits Educational Trust) under the Institute of Masters of Wine having reached level 4 Diploma in Wines & Spirits. 

In spite of all the difficulties it faced through the years, including the Turkish Invasion, Othon Ghalanos Group continues to realize this vision through its internal  marketing, sales / distribution and merchandising structure.  The distribution and sales are handled by Ghalanos Distributors Ltd, a subsidiary company of the group, which serves customers throughout the market, such as hotels, bars, pubs, clubs, liquor stores and supermarkets, quickly and professionally. It operates Cyprus-wide through our in-house distribution / sales, marketing and merchandising structure, which includes 5 regional sales branches in every town in Cyprus, temperature-controlled warehouses where stocks are stored in optimal condition, as well as staff with training, expertise and passion for wine and spirits. The group offers a huge variety of products from the most famous producers, such as whisky blended και malt, gin, vodka, rum, tequila, cachaca, cognac, armagnac, brandy, calvados, eaux-de-vie, tsipouro, tsikoudia, ouzo, arrack, grappa, jenever, liqueur, schnapps, absinthe,  advocaat, bitter, cocktails, ready-to-serve, champagnes and other sparkling wines, desserts and fortified wines, such as Muscat, vermouth, sherry, port and madeira, but also wines from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Chile,  Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.  The variety of wines it offers includes organic, natural, vegan, and de-alcoholized wines.
